Cleaning Engine Oil Pan

Hi Guys, back again.
You guys are of such great help. The forum is really a valuable privilage.

Is it safe to bake and blast the engine oil pan? I thought I detected some lead soldering of joints near the front seal member. I don't care to melt out anything that seals the pan.

Just degrease it and blast it. I always recoat front dam with JB weld to assure no leaking. Then coat it inside with electrical varnish. I do braze around all rivets and straighten pan also.

I guess "be careful' was what I was looking for. I knew there was a lot of brazing on the component and didn't feel real good about chancing the baking part.

Thanks for the caution. I value your suggestion.
Thanks, Racemo

Hello Racemo: The pan can be bake blasted to be thoroughly cleaned. However you would need to resolder the front dam and also straighten the pan. You would need to straighten the pan irregardless if it was bake cleaned or not. Bake blasting doesn't get hot enough to melt braze.
