Hows a guy go about having the front bumper rechromed on my 36 truck i'm working on. Most I've seen are chromed and look great. My local body shop that i'm having work on one of the fenders was gonna look into it. was curious what some of you fellas have done, and how much to expect on cost?
thanks once again!

I just had one of my 1932 Ford bumpers rechromed...show chrome $925. Cost is based on whether they have to grind and polish by hand or machine. The '32 bumper has 2 valleys...needed to be hand ground and polished. On the '36 bumper there are a couple of grooves...don't know if that would count as valleys or not. On flat faced bumpers, they can machine most everything. That brings the costs down. Pat

I used to have a retail store selling early Mustang parts. You can buy reproduction bumoers pretty cheap for Mustangs, around the $100 mark but the quality is lacking. I would always suggest rechroming the originals. In the beginning people would rarely follow my advice because od the cost difference...it was about $300 or so to rechrome.

Then I got smart and put a display in the showroom with a reproduction bumper and a rechromed bumper side by side. Once people could see the difference I started doing about 75% rechrome vs selling new reproductions.

Moral of the story is chrome plating is an involved and expensive process, but overall well worth the money spent.
