I am putting the new choke rod grommet set on my car, the engine side of the install im a little vague on.....i believe on a 31 there is a rubber grommet then the leather, then the metal washer thingy. Im not really sure if i have it right for the car as far as needing the rubber grommet or just the leather seal.....and the one that confuses me is which was does the metal washer go???? it kind of looks like a bell what side goes against the leather it works both ways with the spring?????

The rubber washer goes on the inside. On the engine side it's the leather washer against the firewall and then the metal retainer to hold the leather against the firewall.

So the only thing on the engine side is the leather washer and the bell washer and which way does the metal washer go????????? Then the upper rod grommet is up on the dash and the lower just sits on the rod on the inside by the firewall????? heres a pick of what im putting on....maybe its not even right???

Thanks for the help!!!

The grommet in the upper left goes in the choke bracket below the dash. The grommet upper right goes down against the firewall on the inside (I glued mine there). Then the leather washer against the firewall on the engine side and then the metal washer. The spring pushes against the metal washer and thus seals the engine compartment off from the inside.

Everything that I've ever read is that the large rubber grommet goes on the engine side of the firewall as the Snyders catalog says.

After double checking my resources, I see that Ford never used the large grommet. The grommet that Snyders sells in the kit is actually from the late 30 Starter rod where it goes through the firewall. Sorry for the miss info. Some suppliers sell a donut shaped rubber grommet for the installing in the firewall, but Ford never used one.

The leather washer then the cupped washer (cup towards firewall) then the spring and choke driver. I never used the grommet on the right . I used a second washer on the back side of the leather washer installed a bolt and nut to form the leather washer for a better fit . I let it set for a few days so the leather forms to the washer . I hope this makes sense.

Midgetracer you are correct there is only one rubber grommet used and that is under the tank. on the lower rod up against the firewall it goes leather than washer than spring than the sleeve and that is it. NO large grommet.

Sidetracking a little but since we are in the area, how do the rest of you RHD owners seal around the pedals? Any gap at all allows air heated by the exhaust to rush straight up the driver's leg. NOT comfortable in warm weather.
