choke rod grommets

I bought my first A two weeks ago, a 29 roadster. There were no grommets on the choke rod. I bought a set of grommets, but there are no directions about the order and direction they go on. Obviously the small one goes on the dash and the metal one positions the spring, but what about the leather and the larger rubber grommet? Also which way does the metal one face, convex toward the spring?

The leather one goes on the engine side of the firewall. The metal one goes in front of the leather with the indented side toward the spring. The large rubber one is not used on the choke rod. I don't know where it goes.

The large grommet is not like the one that goes in the terminal box with the ignition cable running through it. The terminal box grommet is a long tubular thing that resembles the spool that thread comes on. The large grommet in the kit is about 3/4 inch in diameter and about 1/4 inch thick. It has no groove around it to fit into a hole. It does have a slight flange about the center hole on one side. The description of the grommet set in Snyders says "This kit contains the upper and lower grommets along with the leather washer and steel washer that goes on the engine side of the firewall."

The large grommet can be used in the firewall hole for the choke rod, but usually the leather washer plus the metal one suffice. For those of you with the very thin replacement type ignition cable you can use an extra (if you have one) choke rod upper grommet as used in the gas tank bracket by slipping it into the terminal box grommet. The thin ignition wire is a nice fit and it does not leave the appearance of a small wire in a big grommet.
