Choke Disassembly

I'm new to this site and new to restoring Model A's. Just got a 1929 Model A pickup given to me by my Grandma. I'm currently tearing it down to the frame. How do you get the choke rod taken off of the carb? I'm trying to get the cowl off of the truck and this is holding me up.
Thank you.

pull the retainer sleeve back towards the firewall, against the spring. When its back far enough, you will see the link between the rod and choke is simply unhooked.

Welcome to the Model A world! Not sure what the sleeve is made of. Sounds as though there's corrosion between sleeve and rod. I'd try a good solvent such as PB Blaster or Kroil. Spray in at top end of sleeve and let it soak down in there for a while.

The original is steel with one end flared and a split running the entire length. Who knows whats on there after 82 years, but you have to move it back to get the two shafts separated.

ya mine was rusted shut had no idear it came apart even after i romoved the cab hust removed it from the carb I ended up taking a mapp gass torch heating it up red hot and then was able to pull it back with a pair of plyers
