Checking generator amperage

I have seen this posted before but cannot find it now. Where is the best points to check generator output with a hand held amp meter?

At the generator, on the side of the cut out that the wires hook to.

Note, you will have to remove a wire and use the amp meter to restore the circuit if you are measuring current. Not so for voltage.
