chassis squeak

I have this squeak in my chassis. If I push the bumper up and down the car squeaks like crazy. Have greased the perches, sprayed oil on the leaves.
Thoughts?

Thanks, Steve

I had an annoying high-pitched whine in my car, kind of over from the passenger side.

I left my wife home and it went away.

Ba-da-boom.

(Thanks, I'll be here all week. Try the veal. Remember to tip your waiter.)

Shackles are well greased...my shocks are doing nothing, rebuilt but no longer have any resistance to them.

get a cheap mechanics stethascope from harbor freight. have someone bounce the car while you crawl underneath and poke around.

tip on HF stethascope: put some red loctite on the coupling of the probe or it will unscrew

Smitty;

Squeaks and rattles seem to be an ongoing saga, at least with my car and most of the other Model A;s that I know.

However, over the years I have managed to eliminate most, but not all. There were a couple of items that stand out.

1. I had my car in the body shop for some minor work and the person working on my car indicated that the body bolts were all loose. Tightened them up and applied some blue loctite and some squeaks went away.

2. I have FAMs in my car and I think that I, at one time, had a noticeable squeak in the front motor mounts. The bolt holding the mount under tension was not tight enough. Tightened up the nut, but not enough to fully compress the springs and more squeak went away.

3. I use engine pans and I found on one occasion that the bolts were not tight enough allowing the engine pans to move a bit and squeak on the frame.

On and on it goes.

Have fun

My s/w squeaks at the rear cross member. The noise comes from the spring rubbing the cross member where it seats. I was going to check the bolts for tightness and try running some oil and graphite down through the centering bolt, but I injured my hand last week so it will have to wait. For years there were aftermarket pads available that are placed on top of the springs to remedy this problem, so I assume its been an ongoing problem for some time. Les Andrews recommends a pad of frame welt, well greased, be placed atop of the spring before installation to remedy the squeak. The problem with those pads is they wear out, leaving you with a loose spring unless you tighten the bolts as the pad wears down. An original crank bearing has a hole in it so you can oil the top of the front spring.

LOL, I'd forgotten about that until you mentioned it, but they sure do loosen up, even after using a pliers to tighten them.

I find that after a day or so of rain, 99% of any noises I have disappear, but I don't like the rain.......
Paul in CT Having too much fun to worry about a few squeaks.
