Chasing the threads on the drag link with a tap

Has anyone ever had to chase the threads on the drag link with a tap to clean them up. I have one that I bought a couple years ago that is in good shape and the end plugs won't go in all the way only like 3 or 4 treads go in and was wondering what the size is or even if anyone has a tap they would want to sell or loan out for a small fee. Looks like it is about 1" wide. Thanks

are you sure its not just ages of crud stuck in the threads? id take a round wire brush and twist it in there and try to clean em out.

but im sure it is possible for someone to have buggered up the threads...

Hi tudor, you might have some luck with a 1" fitting brush normally used for copper fittings. I usually have one of those and sometimes a 3/4" one, in the box. The 3/4" size works really nice on battery cable ends and posts.

Try cleaning the threads as mentioned. Be careful using a tap to chase threads. A dap will remove metal and thin the threads. You don't want the drag link to pull apart under stress. Look for a proper thread chase - it will straighten the threads without removing metal, or find a new drag link. Bill

the drag link and end plugs were brand new from one of the parts supply house a few years ago so to late to return it. it's possible that maybe when it was made since it's a repop that the threads weren't done good enough. the end plugs and drag link are in brand new condition only used a little bit so there really isn't any abuse to it. I know that the original stuff is better then the repop but just thought if I could clean up the threads and make the end plugs work it would give me a good spare or even one I could use or maybe someone else could use hate to just throw it out. Thanks for all the good advise. I will try and clean the threads as I haven't done that yet and I hear what your saying Bill about taking to much metal out and weakening the ends. Not a good thing!!
