Charlie,i just received word that motor homes are not to be used for accomidations at the Saratota Springs meet in 2011.Its really too bad were treated as second class citizins at national meets. ken isidor ct.

ken ct. .............................
It is probably going to be on a hotel lot. You could understand why hotels would not let people camp in their lot.
Perhaps, if you rent a room, you could park your vehicle on their lot.
MIKE :)

But its all right to park there all day and make parts availible to their guests who want to purchase them. Its the clubs loss not mine. The meets are only going to lose good parts vendors at their meets in the future.Dont the clubs have enough bargining power booking the whole hotel to allow the few vendors who vend in this manner 3-4 at the most.If the hotel is booked solid whats the problem???? I for one will not do any national meets in the future with these policies.Ive had enough of this. ken ct.

Ken, It probably won't help, but I will bring this subject up if I get to speak to any of the EFV8C/A Officers or Directors this October at the 2010 Western National Meet in Utah. J.M.

Thanks for the interest John, nobody else seems interested they may lose their swap meets at nationals in the future because of these greedy big hotels. There were 2 small motor homes at the charlotte, mine and one other one.We didn't bother anyone there and were parked in a little used parking lot off in the back of the hotel where the swap meet was held.I dont see what the problem is.CT. has held 3 nationals in the past and had no problems with this. Also Vernon,NY,Hiawassie,GA were very accomodating to us. ken ct.

John maybe you could suggest that vendors sleeping in motor homes could pay some hotel fee and are needed as night watchmen to over see the other vendors goods. Ken should go for this. G.M.

Yea i could do this if its resonable fee, this was done at 1 other show i did,Maryland meet i believe. Ken ct.

Ken, it's probably some Manager at the Hotel, following the rules to the letter. There's probably a sign somewhere to the effect "Parking for Guest only", which is really a shame, since it's not like there's a swapmeet going on every weekend...you'd think they would accomodate this.

Then again, I wonder if there's some liability issues they are dealing with? Might be something to ask about.

Mike i would not hold the Hotel responsible for anything that happend while i was there, its not there problem. thanks for the reply. ken ct.

Ken, I run a lot of events... And all of them have host hotels. I've run into this issue with every one of them. Hotels can't host camping in their parking lot for two main reasons:

1. Liability. No insurance company would cover that activity. In this day in age, it's just impossible. And I don't blame the hotels for covering their asses. I would do the same.

2. It just doesn't make business sense for them. It's like Denny's allowing you to eat a sack lunch in their dining room.

Above all that though, your beef shouldn't be with the club. That doesn't make sense... It's simply not their fault.

Ryan, ive done many shows where this was not a problem.I would be willing to sign a waveir or what ever absoloving them of any problem i would have. Is a hotel libal for any damages a fender bender that happend in there parking lot,i think not.I will not post here on this subject henceforth. Sorry for ranting. ken ct.

Understood. Personally, I've never dealt with a hotel that would allow onsite camping. I know first hand that Holiday Inn, Marriot, Best Western, and Hilton do not. Wavers just don't mean much these days.

In any case, none of this is the fault of the club.

Aren't any events sponsored by the National, covered by the Club insurance. Flea Markets included. That should be explained to the hotel. I can see both sides argument.

Lawson, I think you are right there. I some times feel the V8 Club would just like to do away with the swap meet. That's the feeling I get. They sure make it hard on vendors.

Hey Ken, you know it, I know it, and everyone else should also know it, .....it's all about making the almighty $$$'s at these hotels. I believe all the other excuses given are basically a bunch of BS, plain and simple. Again, It probably won't help much, but I will bring this subject up if I get to speak to any of the EFV8C/A Officers or Directors this October at the 2010 Western National Meet in Utah. J.M.

Why don't you guys just go directly to the hotels? Ask them what's up... Of course for them, it's absolutely all about the money. They are, after all, businesses...

And, excuse my stupidity, but what are some of the other issues with the swap meet? We host a small one at the drags (mostly hot rod parts obviously) and it seems to be pretty much smooth as butter.

There are no other issues with the meets other than a few campers that vend out of there MH's which is a $$ issue with the hotels, then they tell you there filled up anyhow so where would they put you in a linen closet if you wanted a room? ken ct.

I have been to 33 V8 Club National Meets. Most of these have been Eastern and a half dozen or so Central. I have been to most all of the Grand National Meets since 1978. I have had cars in the Touring Class, Original Class and Concourse. I have always registered for the meet and have had motel or hotel rooms at probably 30. There was 3 that were close enough that I could drive back and forth from home. Most of the time when I showed a car I also had swap meet spaces. Hardly ever had a problem showing a car but for the swap meet, a different story, a lot of the time it was not organized. You could not find the person in charge and some times you had to argue for the spaces you already paid for after driving hundreds of miles to get there. It is my belief that not a whole lot of thought goes in to the swap spaces. Recent years I have passed up some of the V8 Meets not wanting to get into the hassle. I know this sounds petty. I guess I'm getting to be a grumpy old man. Didn't want to vent here, probably will be sorry I did.
