Charging Issue

The gauge reads the high side of orange almost in the green (1940).

I think it may be a regulator issue.
On the regulator how to I check voltage output with a meter?

Put the black lead of the volt meter to the battery or battery connection (same) and the red to a good clean ground or the POS on the battery. It is best to use a digitial meter hung on the dash and drive with it. It takes 10 or so miles of highway driving to recharge the battery after starting to get it back up. Driving with the volt meter attached shows you the charging or discharge rates under various conditions and you get a good picture of how the system works. I made several 6 volt alternators in the Ford cases for my drivers and have digital meters on all the time. Charge your battery over night before you start testing. G.M.

There are 3 terminals on the regulator, arm, field and battery.getting the voltage right from the battery shows exactly what is being put in the battery. Any bad connects will lower what is going to the battery and also lower the voltage to components. G.M.
