Chapman Ignition and Hood Lock

Anyone have experience with these locks, they short out the ignition and make the hood difficult to open?

I had one years ago, probably the 80's. I remember it as well made, but was always afraid if it failed, I'd have to open the hood with a torch. I think they quit making them years ago.
