I plan to change the gear oil.. seems I need to suck out what’s there as no drain plug? Then replace with 7 oz of 140 gear oil? Suggestions?

No drain plug.Suction gun needed.Harbor Freight might have them.Back in the day it was 600W. Model A vendors still have it?
Ops,I forgot about. Cornhead Grease. The best.

I used Pen-Rite Steering Box Lubricant in my '51 and was very satisfied.

Where are the "Corn-Head" grease guys?

Take the light switch off remove the horn rod spyder take 2 bolts out and carefully pull out the plate and tube then it will drain eventually.

So. In preparation I removed the cap and measured what was in there. … damn near nothing!!! No wonder I was feeling a little loss of control

Same place the av-gas no ethanol guys are
Why would guys put a marine type of grease in an automobile situation? Especially grease that is meant to be pumped thru lines to point of service. Jeez, I guess they like paying name-brand prices

Corn head grease has been working ok in several of my old steering boxes. Including the 52 Merc. Although it still leaks some. Also known as "00 grease" available from other name brands than John Deere.

I had trouble getting Cornhead grease into a steering box. (a Vega box) I was using a needle tip on the grease gun. The thick grease bunched up at the top of box right away, then just oozed out the filler opening. No problem: drove the car, heat and gear movement let it move down into the box. Repeated several times to get the box full.

While I have already switched to JD cornhead grease in my steering boxes based on info here, the video really confirmed it to be a great choice in our aging steering boxes. I bet it would be excellent in a '28-'29 AA truck with the worm gear rear axle.

I attached a length of plastic tubing with a couple of fittings from my local hardware store, to my grease gun and fill from the bottom up…..I got the idea from one of our Aussie members……as he said..”It works a treat”! ………Mark
