Hi guys fixing to put new tires all around the 27 it has wooden wheels with rim lock , done many A's but never a wooden t , did buy the tool to grab the rim lock any advice other than watch your fingers

I just did a set on a 26 with wood wheels. If they have lock rings like a big rig wrap the rim with a slacked rope so if the rings comes loose it doesn't take your head off. But I don't believe the wood wheeled ts had these locks. The ones I just did you removed the four nuts holding the steel outside to the wood center leaving the wood on the car. After deflatting the tire knock the sliding lock side ways and the rims must be folded over itself.

Re: changing tires in the 27

The T 'split rim' you have isn't a 'drop center' rim like the Model A wire wheels, so the casing of the tire must be levered over the T split rim, by 'splitting' and letting the rim sides collapse on each other. Careful , don't warp or bend the rim when doing this.

those are the easier wheels. Pull the 4 lugs around the rim and leave the wood attached to the car. I hope the new tool you bought is a wheels contractor. Once the rims off you'll have a locking tabs that can be slid out of the way with the tire deflated. Then bend the rim over itself and pull the tire

thanks guys the tool i got is just like the picture going to give it a try this week thanks for all the information and pictures

Alternative tool method

I found that if the spreadable legs are put on either side of the split and the stationary leg put opposite the split, the tool will spread or pull the rim equally on both sides of the split and it is easier to change the tire.
