I have searched the forum to see if there is a situation like this but I can't find anything. You guys please forgive me if I am starting a new thread when I shouldn't.
This involves my 1932, 5 window coupe 100% as original except for the engine, a 21 stud LB motor I think a '36. I sent the motor to H&H in California and had it bored, stroked, Scat crank, domed pistons, rods, balanced, mild Isky cam, all the high dollar stuff they could do. It has Eddie Meyer heads and intake with two Stromberg 97s. Reds headers.
The car has about 200 miles since this build and I was absolutely tickled with the way it ran. It had the right sound and would go like hell but I never abused it.
Last week I started the car cold and everything was normal. It always runs rough for a few seconds and I just let it idle until it feels good. This time it was going O.K. when it stopped suddenly. I didn't hear anything unusual. When I tried to restart, the starter would only turn the engine a few degrees and stop. I knew the battery was good and the starter switch was new. I jumpered a battery directly to the starter and it was the same. This was a re-pop starter that H&H put in so I thought it had failed. I took one of my good original starters and had it rewound "hi torque" thinking the re-pop starter couldn't handle the high compression. That wasn't it. The new starter only bumps the engine a few degrees and stops. Its almost as if the engine is trying to seize. I pulled the plugs and tried to turn the engine over with a socket on the crank nut but that only torqued the nut and did not turn it over.
I raised the rear wheels, put the transmission in high and turned a rear wheel. the ****** turned but the engine did not move!! It's like the clutch was not there. I tried the pedal and all looks normal. It's like there is a disconnect between the flywheel and the transmission.
Could something come loose in the clutch assembly to seize the engine and yet the ****** will turn over?
I have a bad feeling that I am going to have to pull the engine unless one of you guys with a lot more time-in-grade than me can shed some light on this.
Sorry this post is so long but I wanted to get it all out there. Please help!
