casting # in brake drum

Casting number 78-1108 inside the brake drum tells me what year?
Thanks Chet
My GREEN BIBLE doesn't show it. But it does show 78-1107 which is a wheel stud for (Comm.-Front & Rear 1939) and ( 122" 3/4 ton truck-front and rear 1940-47).
It also shows 68-1108 as being a wheel stud.(Pass. front and rear 1936-48).
(Comm. front and rear 1936-47) & (122" 3/4 ton truck-front and rear 1939-47)

So maybe that number is marked on the drum to tell what studs to use with it?

The "78" denotes a part released for 1937. The book will show you that '37 drums are the same through 1939 (part numbers remained the same until a part was actually redesigned), and that rears replace the 1936 drum.
The 1108 denotes what the part is...but it isn't in the book. Why??
Because 1108 is the number for the HUB, and Ford did not sell hubs or drums alone; they only sold them as an assembly of hub, drum, and a hatful of studs, so the book shows a number that refers to the entire assembly. Only the studs were available as replacement parts.

THANK YOU Bruce for that info. I didn't know that was the reason. You are a national flathead treasure.
