Cast iron brake drums

A set sold on "that" auction site sold for big $$$ IMHO. Have you checked to see if they have been turned? If so what do they measure? I tried several key words and failed at finding them in the completed auctions. Maybe someone with more luck or creative search technique can find them and quote the selling price.

I didn't hesitate to pay two hundred dollars for a set of original cast iron front drums at a swap meet in 2007. The drums were in near perfect condition, had good bearing races, had never been turned, had the threaded dust covers,. but was missing one lug bolt. I figure that I got a good deal!!! Here is a pic along with some of my other brake parts collection. I like collecting parts.

I'd think I'd buy the newly mfg. drums from Bratton's, Bert's, or Snyder's before I got too carried away antying up for originals.

I'm told they are of very good quality. Kind of pricey, but at least they are well made.

It really depends on condition , You don't have to have a hub installed in the original cast iron front drums. The ones I got were near if not nos. I bought them from a sort of famous good guy that posts on this board. I have a set of rear cast iron drums that I believe are original. I see the new repro front drums in brattons catalog

at ninety five dollars each . If you buy new front drums with new hubs installed with new bearing races the price goes up to two hundred and eighty five dollars each . In some ses shipping could be expensive . If you had good hubs, the price to install the used hubs with new races on the new drums is offered at ono hundred and five dollars each. New drums ready to use are expensive. I bring in the drums that are usable. I refer them not to be worn over .035. I've used drums that were worn .050 but I don't have the steel drums turned. Here is a pic of some of the rear drums and parts in this building.

That didn't do just right. Maybe you get the idea. I collect this stuff so when I need a part or build up a new project, hopefully i'll have the necessary stuff ready. I never try to sell any of my parts

Looks like you have a lot of good stuff. It is good for me to just go out and turn the bones (parts) every once in a while. I sometimes find stuff that I had forgot hoarding. I've got most of the model A stuff that I have collected over the past 52 years. I'm turning 66 at the end ov nov. I guess i'd better hurry up if I plan to use m

gretter it. I really don't need them, but just sometimes can't help myself. here is more...

Here is an 8 year old pic of some of mine, before I started collecting them to keep them out of the hands of hoarders like Purdy.

Love it- I can use that excuse, too. I am hoarding to prevent others from hoarding-brilliant!

Here is another building with parts and cars. those cheap mufflers make good decorators and I've heard that you can also store dog food in them.

Remind me to send my phone number and address to some of your wives, so when you get sent to a nursing home she will call me to get rid of that stuff. Thats what my wife has done to me, given my contact info to every car guy that comes around and if I get a bad cough or might get sent to a home she will call them. Sad!

Maybe it will be a while, I'm still strong!! If that happened, I'd probably get to argueing about how to set the timing on a model A with the residents and the old bastards would organize a lynching party. That would just be my luck

hmmm , food for thought . i will have a pair of "rocky mountain" drums + rear cast drums for sale soon . thanks for the info .........
