Carburettors backwards?

That picture IS confusing. I think we can all agree the the front of the vehicle is on the left side of the picture. The radiator hoses would confirm this. I have always heard that the engines were mounted backwards to facilitate the front wheel drive. If this is so, then Tim is right abut the "large circle" on the right side of the picture, which, according to common knowledge, should be the front of the engine. The routing of the spark plug looms seems to confirm this.

I am starting to wonder about the source and authenticity of the picture, although the heads seem to be inscribed "Bohnalite".

Starter is pointed to the left which would indicate the flywheel is on the left side in the picture. The drain plugs are on the bottom right which would also confirm the front of the block is facing to the right in the picture. With early blocks, I believe you can place the heads in either direction since the water holes are not directional and are round.

Also, I believe it's the right side is the front for early motors had the top 1/2 of the bell housing like a 59AB series motor. The right or front of the motor appears to be flat.

Interesting things to ponder how they did it.
