carburetor options??

I've got a '53 Customline with the OHV 6 215ci motor running a stock Holley 1904 carb. I've had flooding issues with this carb continuously for a while. Looking to change it out for something else.

Did a bit of research and curious to know if anyone knows what carb would work best with my motor? I've read that Holley 1908, 1931, 1920, and 1960 all use the same parts but will they all work on an OHV 6 215ci?

Has anyone else with my motor replaced their Holley 1904 with great results? (Or at least no more flooding?)

Your pump could be putting out too much pressure causing the flooding or you have a rubber tipped needle valve which also can cause this. Fix these problems and i think your flooding will go away. ken ct. Use an o:)ld school steel needle.

Pump and filter and everything is still stock setup. I didn't change anything. Been reading about 1904 being a temperamental carb with consistent flooding issues throughout the years. I've rebuilt the carb once and also disassembled it three times to make sure it was clean all with the same results- flooding.

Read some more last night and seems a lot of people go with the 1920 or 1960. are these good carbs to swap out to?

One problem with the 1904 is the power valve. You don't get one with the kit, and I think they are friction fit. There is a fellow on one of the IHC sites who has built new pvs and will fit them for you. I don't have the site handy.
