Carburetor cleaner

Boil the parts in a old pot with a good strong soap. Watch our for her, when your using one of her pots.

There is something called Naked Gun, a paint gun cleaner, I think it is made by Strip Ease (Eze?), but not sure, it smells like the old Bendix carb cleaner, and it sure does take any and all paint off paint guns, it should clean your carbs just fine.

Dunno if you can buy it in CA, I just bought some in AZ a few months ago.

Might I suggest buying a quality carburetor cleaner on line, then have it Shipped to you. I had to do the same thing with gallon cans of lacquer paint in NY...

It's not just California, I can't get any decent cleaner here either. I remember when I was a teenager my Dads best friend rebuilt the carb on my 55 Ford. The cleaner he used made it come out looking like new in a few hours. With the crap I get nowadays, I have to soak it for days, rinse in very hot water, and scrub it with a brass brush or scotch pad to get it to look decent.
