Carburator Mercury 255 Flathead

Just checked and it's there. The plate will go out Friday, since I am scheduled for an Angiogram at 7:45 tomorrow.

Matt,

'49 thru '51 Mercury's used the 885FF carbs and I haven't seen one that was stamped with the Holley number.
The correct kit for your '50 Merc at Mikes Carburetor is K7128.
The K7127 is for heavy trucks with manual choke and usually a governor.

Hope this helps you, Sal Cicala

Thanks Sal, I've been tearing my hair out trying to find a part number.

It looks like Mike is out of stock. I saw you recommended 'Carburetor Collectibles Speciality' on eBay on another post. Is this the correct kit (I can't post the link as I'm too new).

'Holley 885FF 2 BBL Carburetor Kit 1949-1951 Ford Lincoln Mercury Side Draft V8'

Thanks

I agree with Sal, I have had good results with rebuilding the stock two barrels on 49-53 Mercuries. The carburetors look strange when first opening one up, but if you follow all the passages and parts they have all the normal carburetor functions and circuits (idle, main, power valve, etc.). For me methodical cleaning, making sure surfaces are flat, and assembly with all the correct parts has always resulted in a good running carburetor.
I recently had my first experience with a "teapot" four barrel on a friend's 56 Ford. It was more of the same, with good result following the same process. For folks who must have a four barrel on their flathead one of these four barrels with careful rebuilding should work well, probably one from a 54 Mercury would be best?

Also, what makes the Teapot 4 barrel good for use on '49 to '53 8BA flatheads, is that they are compatable with the Loadomatic distributor.

Tubman, I still haven’t reviewed the 2GC plate and the tracking number is no information on it?? When did you send it?? Bill

I sent it Monday. I double-checked the tracking number and it is correct. It says "Information Available Soon" on the USPS site. I sent another package at the same time, and I get the same message when I check it. Perhaps they have a problem. As I told you in my PM, I still have the USPS receipt and will check tomorrow. I'll give you odds that it pops up sometime all by itself.

Bill,

I see it's in the USPS system now, scheduled for Tuesday delivery (Monday is a holiday).
