carb

I recently purchased a carburetor off Amazon with the name Henkyo which looks like a clone of a Holly 94, is anybody familiar with these carbs.

Been a few threads about these off shore carbs. Some, few, posts actually deal with experience with them. You will have to sift through a lot of other stuff.

Seth has it right, the Dennis Carpenter carburetor is a high quality reproduction of the Holley. I have friends who purchased new Carpenter carburetors with good results.

The Henkyo is visibly a cheap reproduction. They are not the same quality.

I have one in my -39, first one did not work properly, i made complaint and they send me new carb that works fine and now i have lots of spare parts

I think the attraction is price. Carpenter $500 and Henkyo $139 ! I saw them too, but went with Carpenter. Made in USA and very good quality and very good service.

I bought a couple of the Henkyo carbs. Guys love to bash them, but I completely disassembled them and the quality is pretty darn good. Every piece interchanged perfectly with an original, so the claims that parts won't fit are a bunch of nonsense.
Of course taking one out of the box after is has bounced it's way clear across the planet and bolting it on and expecting it to be perfect is nuts. The float level for one thing needs to be set, and I'm replacing the needle and seat (again, how many times has the needle been crashed into the seat during shipping?)

Any new carb I've ever installed comes apart before I install it, just to give it a once over to be sure I'm good to go. That just makes good sense to me.

I'm using a pair of these Henkyo 94 repros on my HV-12 on an Edelbrock block letter manifold I was lucky enough to find, and in excellent shape at that.

What I am looking for is a couple of junk Zephyr 94s as thay had a push linkage, not the more common pull linkage on the throttle shaft. If anyone has one or two, please let me know.

TIA,
GT

i bought one and installed it a few months back when after my amateur rebuild didn't really fix everything with what looked to my original ford carb. i have no complaints. it was plug and play for me. and although i agree it is most likely not nearly as robust as the originals, i'm expecting it to work well for the relatively few miles that will be put on it until my demise. after all, there are few moving parts and those that do move don't involve much in the way of force.

the truth, for me, was the price was so low that even if it didn't work, i could throw it away without guilt.

i think this is one i bought: https://www.ebay.com/itm/405286736985

I think "GB Sisson" has had good luck with this type of carburetor, albeit on other vehicles (Toyota's, etc.). I think it's that there used to be a lot of Chinese "junk" out there that sometimes just didn't work. From what I can see, they have slowly "cleaned up their act" and actually make some pretty good stuff. As a matter of fact, I can't think of a thing I've gotten of foreign manufacture in the last couple of years that wasn't of pretty good quality. "'Ol Ron" had it right.

It's too bad that the O/P never got back to us with how his carb turned out.

Notice the Henkyo is missing several features that make it, not a direct fit for replacement on the early Fords. Such as: choke linkage and throttle connection.

Yes I used a Chinese carb on the foyota. At the time I could buy this clone for 67.00 with free shipping. The carb on the vehicle was in poor shape and these complex carbs seemed intimidating to rebuild. They were still available brand new from toyota for 1800.00 and change, plus shipping. I bought the clone and it worked perfectly, other than the float sticking closed a couple of times. Probably a burr because it eventually wore in and continued to perform flawlessly. Three years later the accelerator pump failed, but about that time I had found a clean original at a swap meet and with the aid of youtube and advice on a Japanese made aftermarket kit, I'm back in business. With a new acc pump, the clone is in my spares kit.

Realize you've bought one nut personally if I had a carb and it was OE type I would have someone like Charlie S. rebuild it. Its rare that the bodies go bad and the internal parts can be replaced. If I didn't have an OE one I'd find one as Sisson did above.
