Re: carb test. for your viewing pleasure.-Water DOES NOT WORK for setting float level
Specific gravity at 60 degrees F
water 1.00
Gasoline 0.68 – 0.74
Kerosene 0.78 – 0.82
My personal experience with water is that it does not work when setting floats.
In 1970 my friend Paul Garrigan AKA rumble seat
(CORRECTION Should be "rumble seat" WITH A SPace) on HAMB ie the V8 side of Ford Barn told me that in the early 50's he got a job at Ford dealer rebuilding 97s and 81s.
A week after he started the manager told
him that he had to use water and not gasoline.
Paul tried to explain why it would not work ...
Finally they settled on a way to get the job done and for Paul to keep his job.
He told the manager that he would start at (0400 in the morning) and work until he was finished and get paid for 8 hours work.
Paul said that he was always done before the Manager showed up at 0800 and no stinky gas smell.
What a deal! Work for 4 hours and get paid for 8 hours !
What he did not tell the guy was that he was using the old abandoned paint booth to do the testing so he could work right up until 0800,
(turn on the fans for a bit) and not stink up the dealership.
Here are number of threads some which lead to other threads about Paul Garrigan.
