Has anyone made a carb spacer out of hardwood? I remember reading about someone doing that but cannot recall who when or where. Just wondering how the fuel mixture affected the wood. Any comments welcome.
Use to make them out of red oak or ash back in the day at high school shop class. The spacers worked well and don’t recall ever having a problem with them. Also use to make adapter plates to mount different carbs on the manifold. Those were the days, chevys 327 and ford yblocks 312.
If you’ve got the right tools and woodworking skills it’s fine. If not it might be cheaper to buy a phenolic one. They’re pretty available for most modern carbs from places like Summit.z

I made mine for the '55, 272 Y-block and the '55, 223 I-block from a 3/8" thick piece of phenolic stock. Use the exact same tools you would need to make one from wood; (jigsaw, drill with bit for mounting holes and hole-saw for venturi holes).
Back in the day when I wanted them, no one was offering them aftermarket.
