carb issues?

I have been reading old forums on carbs and fuels issues. My 40 was not getting fuel all of a sudden. I ordered new fruel pump and such. However, it was pumping gas to the carb (not sure if enough or not). I had the carb rebuilt about two months ago. Worked fine up until now. I use starting fluid and she starts right up. Will drive until starting fuel runs out. When I pour gas down the carb when it is just sitting nothing stays in the carb. It runs out down in the engine I guess. None on the outside. Is this correct or did something go wrong with the carb. Again, I have no idea what I am doing and this forum is saving my neck. Thanks for any help.

You are most likely leaking down through the power valve from a blown diaphram or a bad gasket on it..Also new pumps comming from china have too heavy a spring under the fuel pump diaphram causing too hi a fuel pressure. Not good.PV and kit used most likely from china garbage in my opinion. Have the carb gone through by someone who knows what their doing and uses U>S>A> kits. ken ct.

I would not think it will run for more than a few seconds on a prime. Do not prime with more than a teaspoon full or so of gas. I have had a problem in the past with the needle valve
which is closed by the float sticking shut. That could be your problem

I would also check the inlet needle. I don't understand where you are pouring the gas when you say that it doesn't stay in the carb. If you are pouring it down the airhorn it is running directly into the intake manifold which is normal. I don't know of anyway to pour gas into the float bowl without removing the top.

Could be a rubber tipped needle, they tend to stick closed, like Brian said it will only run a few seconds with a prime.Have the carb redone. Most likely a rubber accel pump also junk.Have it done right. ken ct.

Hi dewert; You could have a clogged fuel line, a fuel pump problem, a carb. problem, or a combination there of. Why don't you make sure you don't have a clogged fuel line first, Craig.

Unless it has the later top with the vent tube sticking up into the throat and you are pouring it down this tube.
