Looks like a pretty tight kink in the fuel line. Tubing benders are cheap, and I've also used the V of a V belt pulley to make nice bends.

Tom, it's sort of an optical illusion with the glare on the line, but it's still not a good bend. I will eventually replace it all, as the P.O. has the line too far out towards the hood as well.

Thanks Jon!

Is there anything else I need other than the kit: RC-9590-A2? This is my first time rebuilding an A carb.

Renner's for sure!

The Marvel carb is super simple to work on, and a lot of guys say that it is a much better carb than the Tillostons or Zeniths (more power, doesn't starve for fuel at hard stops, etc). It was sold as an aftermarket replacement carb in the 40's (give or take a few years) by Sears Allstate.

I just recently got my A, and it has a Marvel on it. Here are some good links to check out from the forums:

(Scroll all the way through this post...good info on taking it apart, etc)

It looks like your carb still has the lead plug at the base of where the GAV rests. That kit from Renner's probably includes a screw and seal for that plug. If your plug leaks, take it out and replace it with the screw and seal.

When you remove the GAV and seals, make sure you get all of the seals out. Some have a felt seal, so you want to get that all out of there. The new GAV seal will be a tight fit for the GAV and will make turning the GAV harder, but that's fine.

Speaking of the GAV, many have reported that the GAV on a Marvel needs to be turned open a little more when running the car than the other carbs. I can verify this, but there is also some more info in this thread (starting at the second comment): http://www.fordbarn.com/forum/showthread.php?t=32515

Not many places sell kits for the Marvel carb. That kit you mentioned should be all you need. Renner's is great to deal with too. Highly recommended.

Also, do you have a filter or sediment bowl somewhere along the fuel line leading the carb? Might want to incorporate one if you do not. My car is a '31, so I added this: http://www.mikes-afordable.com/product/A9155L.html

Blake,
Thanks for the great response! I will definitely check those links out!

I had noticed that the GAV needed to be turned 1.5-2 turns in order to get it to run properly. I thought perhaps something was wrong, but it sounds like thats how they are. My problem is the little gear(slotted metal piece) that catches in the tube is stripped out, so the GAV just spins now.

I still have the stock sediment bowl on the firewall.

Thanks everyone. I mailed my carb to Dave yesterday. I talked to him a few times on the phone, seems like a great car guy!
