Carb Coating

Has any one powder coated their Carb ?
Or just painted them.Joe

HarleyJoe,
'EASTWOOD' ...carb renew! I did two stromberg 81s that are still looking good and functioning on my B banger. Can't send pics here(hmm, Ryan said,in the beginning, even I could). Well, you send me your email and I can send you a pic of these carbs appearance..after three years use;)!

I just use engine enamel, never had a problem. A while ago on the old forum, it was mentioned to use RC aeroplane/car paint because it's fuel resistant. I went to the local RC hobby shop and asked about the paint used on RC models, he said that he uses engine enamel on his models and has never had a problem with alcohol or nitro fuels.

Powdercoated my '94s (pot metal) in a silver color, but did not clear coat them (would have left them looking grey, and not natural).Looked good for a year, but if you know anything about Holley 94s, they are difficult to keep them from oozing gasoline from certain places. The brown stains will not satisfactorily be removed!
This is just what I've experienced.

I stumbled across a bottle of Aero-Gloss black dope at a hobby store, and it worked great on my carb. No sign of deterioration after a year or two.

That Aero-Gloss is very hard to find(at least in CA). From the postings that mentioned it, are those 'old' stashes of the paint, or still readily available where you live? Difficult to locate via the web too.

I got it from a hobby shop (Amato's in Middletown, CT) that's been in business forever. I get the impression it is not made anymore.

Try to get some clear butyrate dope and some black staining. If you happen to know a aircraft mecanic I am sure he will get it for you.

Aircraft Spruce (try Google) is an aircraft supply house and sells butyrate dope by the quart. It is available in gloss black. One quart can should last your local club for a very long time. Gar Williams

I'll vote for PPG DP-90 epoxy primer. I has the satin look and is gas proof once cured. Gar Williams

Yes I have powdercoated them and it does satisfactory however WAY too much time needed in proper application (taping off plugs and openings). DP-90 is probably a very good idea simply because it is thin enough to look correct. I might even add a little bit of flattener to the DP to get it to the correct gloss level as they were not glossy originally.

Epoxy paints like Aplliance Epoxy seem to be gasoline resistant. I'm not sure where you can buy semi-gloss black. I haven't seen it in a while.

Thank You Every one for your response..
I just used Acid Wash Primer and it is Black and so will
try it and see the results over summer.
