Carb cleaner

I did not start my '46 for about a year. The carb was a mess, so I'm in the process of rebuilding it. My old carb cleaner won't touch the junk that formed in the float bowl. Anyone have a suggestion on a good "soaking type" carb cleaner.
Thanks in advance.

I cleaned up an old lawn mower carburetor with White Vinegar. I dissassembled it and let it soak overnight. By morning it looked like the vinegar was boiling. I really don't know what harm vinegar could cause to different metals or alloys, but I thought for the mower it was worth the risk.

I've used Chem-Dip with great results. Just make sure every gasket and seal is out of the carb, only metal stuff remains. It's kinda pricey but it works good in my opinion. I only leave parts dipping for about 45 minutes at the max. Usually 15-30 is about good.

I use Chem-Dip then I put it in lacquer thinner if it was really dirty.ON chain saws I used to use ultrasonic at work but don't work anymore no company bennys at home

Chem Dip is at most any auto supply store. After use seal it's container well for later use or it will evaporate.

Recently I put some carb parts in Chem Dip and then got ******* with other have-to-do projects. Didnt get the parts out for 3 or 4 days. Two boosters were ruined. Cant be sure if the Chem Dip caused it or if they were ruined before going in due to someone soaking them in acid. So now I dont leave parts in for more than 8 hours.

Me too. I got mine from AutoZone. I just got finished using Chem Dip on a couple Model A tillys. Worked good. It says not to leave aluminum parts in longer than 4 hours.

Cleaned and chromated. Not the best photo, look better in than that. These were not done with Pine Sol, though.

You should have kept it on the car and ran "Sea Foam" through the system. You'll see all that gunk blow out of the tail pipe in the form of smoke. In 20 minutes time, the engine will run like new. I use it after my vehicles have been sitting for a long time.
