Car Show/Swap Meet...YECH!

Just went to a small local show this AM.
Put on by some Mopar guys. (I like those too)
All the older cars had Chev engines and Pinto front ends and most of the rest were late model cars.
Why bring a new car to a car show?
Then the music started. Not really music...just noise..loud noise.
We left after about 15 minutes.
Now we're going to another show 25 miles away.

What do you mean by "late model"? On this forum that could be a '62 Galaxie;)

I haven't been to a show or cruise-in in years, but they used to be decent. I'll be trying a few when one of my cars gets presentable. The Torino is closer to done than the '36.

There was a big post on the HAMB about guys holding spots for people, people showing up at 11:00 AM for a 3:00 PM cruise, etc.

Take it for what it is. I like smaller stuff. 20-30 local cars. Park, walk around and BS and leave so someone else can park. I'm not for sitting there for 3-4 hours.

Late model to me is newer than about 15 years old.
We go to two cruise-ins a week.
They are informal and last a couple hours.
More enjoyable.

Late model to me is the brand new Mustangs,Camaros and the Charger/Challengers and I have seen these cars trophy over nice restored cars. Some even have the window sticker still on them, what do the owners have to talk about, how they made a good deal ? Last weekend I saw a very angry 65 GTO owner, beautifull car that he restored himself, leaned on by a couple young guys drooling over the car parked next to it a new Corvette.

im against brand new vehicles at a old car shows too . i think they or to have there own shows . after all even to me if there brand new there no comparssian to a antique cars . they have a few in locl shows that im a member of and if a new one is parked beside a old one i pass it right by and give it no attention i look at the old ones . now in 30 years ill be glad to give these 2011 2012 vehcies there antique respect . :) not till them they have a long life to live yet to get that title under there belts

If I had a brand new Mustang, Camaro or Challenger that was was new off the show room floor and I didn't take best of show at any car show, I would take it back to the dealer and demand that he detail the car correatly of give me back my money. On the other hand, what is the purpose of taking a new car to an antique car show?? I guess it must be the bragging rights of saying see how much I can spend on a car!!

I still like the Kool Deadwood Nights event the last weekend of August every year. It is in Deadwood, South Dakota and it is small.

Most of the guys attending have done their own cars and not on big bugets either. Some are real knockouts! And many are still ONE family owner cars and trucks from their parent's and grandparent's days.
Many that have the hoods up are still sporting the original or original era engines, etc.
And the friendliness of those guys is wonderful. Of course, you will always have the big dollar boys who do not know how to be humble.

I agree, new cars belong on new car lots, not an antique car venue show. Who cares what you bought today? Anyone can buy one of those. Try to come up with what we have Junior! Bet you can't even spell "restored".
Long live the true old auto restorers, those are the history of this country!!

I have to agree, if they are playing loud music, whether it's '50's or modern, I leave. Having to yell to talk is not worth it. If I have to hear "The Great Pretender" one more time I'll puke.

I think car shows should be designated for a particular time span, not include everything built from 1888 to 2013. All too often the promoters of "car shows" are just looking to generate income over interest, and seldom do they demonstrate any level of concern for the car/truck owners, in my experience.

we don't have many car shows here. i have been going to one classic car show since 2005. now they will after this year no longer be there! :-( i wish there were more shows over here.. we have had more then 5 close in the last few years.. i agree with my4dv8, nothing newer should be in these shows. my car had only 2 owners I'm the 3rd. when i pass away my son will get the car .

Most of the new car guys spend the afternoon discussing which wax they use, and what to use to polish those tricky alloy wheels. Just saying........

Best to just leave.
We have a big car run here in Perth "Big AL's poker run" and more and more late model cars are creeping in ..I dont go anymore.
Recently I went to find a "chrome bumper cruise" Thought I'd take out my Plymouth Cuda. I got to where it was supposed to be and it was full of late model cars and rice burners..Only one real nice Camaro, Odd I thought? pulled in asked some guys if they had seen other cars for another run [turns out they had advertised the wrong date] ..Nope, but hey if you can find them come with us! mmm I'm thinkin' No chance sunshine ! More so, we have to be careful here they take your car if you are in group you only need someone do a small burnout while taking off or anything minor and the cops take all the cars for a month !

Yeah dont worry..we spend more time looking at our speedo than the road! One thing I liked about driving in Cali when I was there, people just go, they dont drive in fear.... Here they dawdle.. slow.. do what you want but hey dont go 5 kph over the speed limit 'cos thats bad!

I work at a Ford dealer. A few years ago, a guy bought a new Shelby GT500. He took it to a local Mustang show and was graded rather poorly. That Monday he came in ranting & raving with his marked down score sheet and wanted everything fixed and adjusted. He was going off on one of the service writers about his $60,000 car that was not perfect. About that time an old guy in overalls asked him to come look at the truck he was accepting delivery on. The old guy's tuck was an F350 dually King Ranch with a sticker of $63,000. The old guy told the Mustang owner he was being stupid and told him he owed the service writer an apology. LOVED IT!!!!!!!!

I just want to tell people with new cars at car shows that "If someone wanted to see new cars they would go to the dealership!" I hate it when the local Corvette club attends our cruise in's taking up over 30 valuable parking spots and having to turn down good antique cars cause their is no more room to park.
