Car Cover Blues

So, Who makes great car covers?....California Car Covers, right? Most of the time. I have seen some excellent fits on covers made by them but what came back to me from them for my 1931 s/w sedan was a sad oiece of workmanship. It fit terrible. Much too tight in some places and too baggy in others. I sent it back and they modified it. I now give it a grade of C-. I told them that when people see my California Car Cover they will think twice before buying from them.

I agree with "polkadave" I ordered a CCC for my modern (1987) Buick and it does not fit as well as a previous one I had ordered through a company that is no longer in business.

It appears that they use a "one size fits all" cover and then cut and sew it to "approximate" shape and size.

I had a similar problem. I'd like to find a source for a GOOD cover. I want a cover that drapes neatly without tension anywhere except the elastic at the bottom.

These are pics I sent them but the remade cover is mediocre at best. BTW, I've never gotten the top as perfect as it was before.

I feel that you are better off without a car cover if your car is stowed inside in a garage, it is better for your car, motor cycle, jet ski, what ever to collect dust that can be washed off easy with no damage to your vech. finnish then to have scratch's and marks caused by the cover it's self by putting it on and off. JMHO ;).

Marco,
And others, hmm...I have what I consider a 'cheapo' thin soft coupe car cover that I keep on my garaged sport coupe. Fits loosely and well. Doesn't have a name on it or I'd let you know.
Glad you posted regarding CCC, as it's within walking distance from my home. Hmm, guess I won't have any reason to walk there tho!!

Since my car is used everyday, and is parked in the garage every night I don't bother with the cover, but I have been told that it is very important to get a cover that "breathes." JMHO

I've had pretty good luck with the covers I've ordered from Bratton's. The first one for my '29 phaeton didn't fit worth a darn. I returned it and got a good one at no extra cost. The one I ordered from them for my '29 coach
(that's GM talk for a Chevy 2-dr. sedan :p) was made for a Model-A Tudor but fits the Chevy real nice.:)

I use blankets for my motorcycle in spring and winter I bring Harley into living room and put Santa on it..
But cars I use very fine nylon cover .
But my garage being cinder block in winter at times makes the cars or
bikes become soak and wet during drastic temp changes.

I have been looking into those bubble covers with desiccant and wonder if
anyone has used them and what they think of them for protection
against humidity ..Joe in NJ

Does this car cover make my rumble seat look fat?

Marco, that was interesting how a poorly fitted cover can cause wrinkles. It is difficult for me to understand but I have nothing to argue with.

I went over to the CA car cover website to look and I noticed they had different materials. Which material do you think works best for in garage storage?

With respect to Marco's too tight cover. I am wondering if ordering one for a larger later coupe would be a good thing? Proportions wise which later car is bigger and has all the proper bumps?

From my perspective, I am doing a cabriolet with rear spare.

That is exactly what I did for a cover for my 28 special. Jeff/Illinois mentioned to go to Goodwill or another charity store and buy a couple of king-sized non -fitted flannel sheets. I just drape them over the car. If you want to get fancy you could sow them together for a little more coverage. I got some plain ones that are kind of a neutral color, not the gaudy colored ones. I think I paid $4 to $6 for each sheets and they were in good condition - no wear or holes. This way you can cover your car and help out a charity at the same time! You could also make a stencil and spray California Car Covers on the flannel sheets to give the covered car a "rich" look. However CCC might try to sue you for copyright infringement! The flannel sheets work great!
