car bounces to much !!!!!!!!!!!!

hi my 29 tudor seems to have a rapid bounce in the back. shocks are good. I was going to change rear spring. but it seems like its in the drive train somewhere dont really now for sure.does anybody have any ideas thanks randy

my money is on tires being out of balance or the rims are out of round, bad shocks only show up on rough roads with big bumps or pot holes

are you drive in warm weather or cold Your tire are 6 ply not like the new tires we drive with on cars or truck today. If its the shocks just unhook them and see if it makes any differents

Driving on a smooth road and it bounces, the problem is wheels, tires, bearings.

Driving on rough roads, the problem is shocks, springs.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

How old are the tires? If it has sat for extended periods, could be flat spots on the tires. My roadster tires are well over 30 years and have awful flat spots, shocks actually helped my bounce, it pretty much went away.......

Consider jacking up the rear end assy and install on a set of substantial jack stands with a minimum of 3" of clearance between the tire and the pavement. Have someone start the engine and run the vehicle through all 3 gears while you are standing behind the car. Any harmonic vibration will show up and you will see axial and lateral run-out in the wheels along with "square" tires.

Hi Randy;

I had a very similar problem a couple of years ago. I ensured that the shocks were working OK, checked axial and radial runout on the wheels and tires. All seemed OK. I checked the wheels etc as Brent suggested and there was a definite up and down bounce while on the axle stands.

I have Float a Motors and at that time I did not use the ****** mount. I did some reading on Fordbarn and discovered that the general feeling was that the ****** mount was absolutely essential. I finally installed the ****** mount and the bounce went away.

The shocks should have a lot of resistance to movement. Almost as much as with modern shocks. You might need a heavier (thicker) oil or gear oil to get the resistance you need. Most hydraulic oils are way too thin.

I have the same problem with a 29 pickup. I have tried all the things suggested above and still no solution. If you find the a solution PLEASE let me know.

Count the spring leaves and make sure you have the correct amount for your car.
