can't find second gear

I was having same problem getting mine to go into second and could hardly drive it. Instead of double clutching, when going to second i go to neutral wiggle shifter side to side and it goes right in. Im able to go down the road smooth now.

. . . give it a couple seconds time in neutral, then shift into 2nd. Another thing, make SURE your idle speed is set low enough. If the engine does not idle down it will make shifting tough, especially between 1st and second. . . .
Eureka! That did it for me! Unbelievable what a difference it makes. All I needed to pay attention to is that before moving to 2nd the RPMs are down to idle. Nice smooth shift ever time!

Great! It works for me. If you get yourself to a road that is nearly abandoned, Practice, practise, practise. You will get so you can click it in every time. If you get in a hurry it won't go good. When downshifting as well the answer is to wait a bit, then "blip" the throttle, then slide it in. The Lucas oil stabilizer (full strength, no regular gear lube with it) makes a difference as well. I know it is good because the bearings are quieter, the rails are slicker. When you do happen to miss a gear and get a little grind, you can feel the lubrication on the gears, its like they have a buffer between them so the "grind" is less harsh. Doesn't feel like metal-on-metal as much. Not sure if I'm explaining it very well but thats how I see it. I initially used the Lucas Hub Oil which is absolutely wonderful when the transmission is cool but as it warms up it fades. The oil stabilizer is not quite as good cold but is better when the engine is warm because it doesn't fade. I have been going to try a 50/50 mix of the two but haven't got to it yet. The Hub oil does foam some too which I don't like either. The Stabilizer doesn't.

After you have mastered the shift and have your engine speed relative to transmission gearing try the shift into second without using the clutch. It works for me. But then again I have been driving stick shifts for over 50 years. I only use the clutch for starting and stopping. Simply they way old truckers drive. :-)

Message #4 has a very important Warning; i.e.:

Starting the engine with the transmission tower removed is a BIG "NO-NO"!

Gear oil will also be splashed everywhere on the interior of the vehicle.
