Well my little ordeal is over. I never could get the gear assy out so I drilled out pin and removed top piece and of course it came out. I compared it to the new one and I could see little size or difference. Maybe the lower tang to old pump was a little wider but not much. I practiced putting new one in and out and yes it was tricky but nothing like the old one so I just do not know what my problem was. What had happened the top tang of gear sheared smooth off and was still in rod going up to distributor. My old gear was badly worn compared to new and so that was ok to change. Also I put in a new distributor and I believe it is running better. Thanks for all the help. Joe Bohannon
