Can you date the body for me?

Late 31 Coupe, indented firewall.... Looks like a std, no holes for cowl lamps, but did come with the optional roll down window. The body number is NK11511 I'm trying to chase the frame number but I don't see it anywhere under the body....engine number was ground off and restamped with a VA dmv number, that matches title... Title was issued in 74....just trying to get a date...

The frame number should be under the driverside cowl post or the cross member infront of the seat. You *might* get a date from it but more than likely not. You normally get a date from the engine number.

From your description your Coupe will very likely also have a seat carriage with the bottom platform made of stamped steel instead of wood and seat slides on the floor instead of atop a seat riser. That would make the car late July at the earliest but more likely August or later. When you find the number on the frame I suspect it will be in the May time frame.

Hi Marco,
Yes it does have seat tracks/slides on the floor. I don't have the seat or carriage platform What does it look like??

Here is a link to a side view picture of the frame. You have to be careful as the 32 frame is very similar. They are differentiated by the width of the mounting holes. I bought a 32 by accident- but no big deal cause it is worth way more than the 31. I have more pictures at home so message me your home email and I can send you some more.

The "NK" body code means the car was assembled in Norfolk VA. My late 31 sport coupe with late seat frame was assembled in Los Angeles and has a July 1931 date on the body next to the code. I have no idea what the frame number is

Hi Ron, from what I read, LA was one of two plants that dated the body, but I could be wrong. I know NK was Norfolk, I should have posted that in the orig post. Kevin, yes my email is grapp2@carolina.rr.com. I will post pics of the seat frame I have, the drivers side metal bolster is shot!..

Thanks everyone!

Sounds like my late July 31 coupe. The real key is if the seat is as Marco describes. Another clue is the seat adjustment. Is it a wheel that turns or a handle that lifts?

Hi Tincup... I don't know if I have the handle, car was part of a package of three cars and this one is mostly apart so I'd have to weed through all of theparts, I will post some pictures soon!
Thanks for the picture It looks like what you posted without the metal pan as it's been removed.
