can this car color be identified?

Awesome, thanks for posting the pics. your car looks great for such an old paint job! question since im looking at your close up picture. i see around the cowl area there is some belting molding. is this the only place it is orignally put on a model A coupe?

Do you have the J/S? If you look up upholstery you will see that the material changed during 1929. It started with blue hairline stripe, then changed to a brown check. Without looking up the time of the change, I think it was just before mid-year.

This is called "Welting" ( has a round paper or plastic-tube core, then leatherette or vinyl upholstery material is folded-over and glued or stitched along the open-side of the tube, rendering the tubing captive, leaving a selvage (flap) that gets squeezed between the two body panels. It serves as an anti-squeak and helps seal-out wind and rain from coming-in through a seam. Also helps dress-up panel / fender joints.

On the '28-'29, the welting goes between the back edge of the gas tank and the the lower windshield rail, and then down the sides between the cowl panel and the cowl pillar ( "door pillar").

These particular welts were installed BEFORE the body was painted, so they should be body-color, not black.

There is no welting in the horizontal seam between the gas tank and the cowl panel.

There is larger welting that goes between the rear fender and body, and somewhere on the front fender, perhaps between the fender and splash apron ?

Fender welts were installed with the fenders ( after the body was painted), and should be black (?)

I painted my pick up "Dawn Grey" which is a 1928 Ford color (#434 in the Antique Ford Repaint Manual) and it looks a lot like the color in your picture.

I think it is "pea green." That was the color (per the testimony of the guy who painted it and who I subsequently bought it fromj) of a Coupe that followed me home not too many years ago. I got it running and rebuilt a very wobbly front end and sold it to make room for another project. In the meanwhile, I determined that the particular green was not a '30 color, although it was very close to an early '28 color.
I found some examples of pea green cars at various meets. Here are two pics of our car and two of cars of similar stripe. Obviously, "pea green" is a popular, if not authentic, color for a Model A.
If you like it, go with it. You will be in good company!

The Coupe painted two-tone green with whitewalls is Kewanee Green lower/Elkpointe Green upper with Apple Green wheels & pinstripe.

The Elkpointe Green looks a little light to me, but it may be this ancient computer of mine.

I have been wondering for some time what color my car is supposed to be. I call it green but it looks very much like the colors that are being called grays and blues inn this thread. Any thoughts? The gentleman that owned this car (and repainted it) was the judge for the local Model A Ford Club shows (south east Tenn..Knoxville area) and yet I am told that it is all wrong.

Allowing for camera and monitor variations, it looks to me like Bonnie Gray/Chelsea Blue.

The reveals and belt should also be Chelsea Blue same as the upper back. Looks like the windshield frame is Chelsea Blue and therefore correct, but it's hard to tell for sure from the avatar photo.

The color demarcation on your car (upper back only being painted upper body color) is not correct for any year.

WOW! I guess I'm sold on Bonnie Gray/Chelsea Blue. I googled that combo and saw it on a Coupe and on my monitor it is almost a perfect match. There is a hint of blue in the dark color, I guess now I may have see if I can get some to match and do the belts and reveals I have no doubt it would look better. Is this a proper color combination for a 28 Tudor?

Thanks,
James
