can this car color be identified?

I like that interior! Wouldn't change it for the world. Sure it's not 'correct' but makes your pickup look like it would have been an XLT series if Ford had offered that back then,,,,like in the F-Series line today.

Nice truck!!!
Thanks, Jeff. I have not really considered changing it, but would like to take that extra couple inches in height out, but that's way low on my list right now.

Maybe I should get an XLT badge for it??

...I took advantage of the leeway for my May '29 Tudor because my wife really likes the Bonnie Gray/Chelsea Blue...
This is my friend's car, Is this the color of which you speak?

great, thanks! wow that bonnie gray looks much lighter on the car then in the ford color chip book. i do like that color. my engine number dates to Aug. 1929 so the chip book says my car is second half of the 29 year and the Bonnie Gray is prior to April. Would this hurt my car value to paint Bonnie Gray after all it is a 29 color ?
thanks

I think you are OK. As Joe said, the two month rule applies. Also, I believe you could have always gotten an earlier paint scheme on a later car. As an example, I painted a '34 Harley Davidson a '33 color scheme. It is a high point bike that has won several significant awards.

I have a factory invoice from a Ford dealership in western N.Y. that is for a March 1929 Tudor, but lists the car with a 1928 color. The color is written in pencil, so it's also possible the employee didn't know the correct name of the color.

Carl, that doesn't look quite right to me. The Chelsea Blue (which actually has a greenish look) seems OK, but the Bonnie Gray looks too blue. Probably a color rendition issue, as Brent in 10-uh-C says earlier.

Let's try a couple of others and see how they look to me on my monitor. The first one is my car. The second is a photo from the gallery at MAFCA.com.

OK, I've previewed the post, and both these photos look pretty close on color to me. But they look quite a bit different from the photo of your friend's car.

Maybe the best example of a car painted these colors is Gary Karr's outstanding Tudor. There are a couple of good pictures of it in this thread.

The colors in these photos look good on my monitor.

what color combo is this? it looks like Dawn Gray Light in my color chip guide?

So was it standard for 29 Model A cars to come from the factory with just black rims and blackwall tires? did any come with color rims or ww tires?

Nope--my car, Paul's car, and Gary's car are all Bonnie Gray/Chelsea Blue. They do look slightly different in different light, but I've seen enough photos of other cars the same color to know that they appear similar to mine in similar light.

Joe

No!!!!!!!!

Steve means Yes!!!!!!!! They had black rims and blackwall tires, and

No!!!!!!!! They did NOT come with colored rims or whitewalls.

For that matter, I'm not aware that anyone has EVER been able to show that ANY Model A came from the factory with whitewalls.

interesting, thanks so much, i am learning alot on this website. i would of never guessed this info. it just seems natural that there would of been some color and of course ww tires available.

the more i look at pictures of Model A's with black rims and tires, the more it does grow on me. the focus is then the car itself. the car features pop when looking at it.

I was sanding-down the driver's door on my '28 Special Coupe the other night, and found light gray on the door above and below the belt, and a greenish-gray on the belt... I guess it was Bonnie Gray and Chelsea Blue ( then Ford's dark brown primer, then bare metal), and apparently the door came from another Ford, as the non-removeable body panels all show traces of Andalusite Blue.

I am going to try and get more pictures today for my avatar. The pictures I have now were taken for the insurance company. I have changed to 16" wire wheels painted red, made a huge difference in the look. Also my graduating class Face Book group, want to see my frayed and faded tassle hanging from the mirror, just like the old days.

Rose Beige/Seal Brown/ Orange Pinstripe

You mentioned Rose Beige as a possible color choice.
Attached find a 1st Qtr '29 Phaeton finished in Rose Beige/Seal Brown/Orange pinstripe. The interior is '28 carry over brown vinyl rather than the '29 gray. The sidemounts, wheels & tires are not correct but I like them anyway. The occupants...my neice Anne and her husband Ben on their wedding day. What a beautiful combination...and I'm not referring to the colors of the car!
Good Day!

There is a very nice '29 Roadster around here in the same color scheme.

thanks for the link and extra pictures. this helps get a better feel for the correct 29 colors. they do look lighter on the cars then the color chips. now i need to make my mind up.

I have found if you want to find out what the original color of your car was, take off the dash panel and you may be able to see the original color. On the huckster I rebuilt, the panel on the outside had been repainted but the inside was the orginal color that the old pickup I started with. Also when I took off the dash panel on the coupe, I found the orginal color under the rubber washers between the panel and window frame.

Just a thought if you may want to go back to the orginal color the car was made with. You may luck out and find that color under the panel.

I hope these pictures will help. Remember this paint job is at least 35 years old.
