Cam timing

Well today I had a chance to check several "no name" CAMS The first one (59 style had a stock base circle and .325 net lift, however. The timing was strange. I use .014" for all checking, some numbers may sound funny.
Intake open 5 degs AFTER TDC
Close 45 degs after bDC

I'm going to use this for a core

Next one is a nice one, new in the box.
Intake oper 20 btdc close 50 degs abdc.

Exhausr ope 50 degs atdc close 20 degs

Net likt .345 .319 lift @ 70 degs ATDC some builders like this number. Piston is reaching max speed and valve is almost wide open.

Probably sell this one. 100 bucks. should get a few more done tomorrow.

Hi Ron
Why don't you use .050" to check at? That way you'll have a means of determining the degree of "wildness" in the cam. That and the gross lift would be very helpful.

I am using .050" on some of them. gross lift isn't important, using .014" makes it easier for me, these cams are probably Mellings or other 50's semi, 3/4 cams. If I find anything interesting I'll check everything. I think the 70 degree lift is very important as the piston is reaching max speed and having the valve open the max improves breathing. Also lift rate. Stay tuned.

I didn't get a chance to do anything with the cams today. My slave is going back to collage on sunday and I have to get the most from him. Working on the breaks now.

Well today was an interesting day. Had a "No Name" cam in the block and started the intake timing intake open @ 20 BTC intake close 75 ABc. This didn't sound right so I checked my set-up, same numbers. went to the exhaust. EX open55 BBC,. EX close 10. ATC . This sounds like stock timing. Had to leave, so tomorrow I'll do it over.
