cam gear lube question

My flathead engine is an 8BA. I am going to use a Vertex magneto. I have noticed on a couple of pro-built Bonneville engines that the ignition gear has a "dripper" ----involving some modifications to the front timing cover. I understand the aftermarket timing covers have provisions for a "dripper".

Is this something I should be concerned with for street use? A standard ignition does not provide much resistence on the gear-----but a Vertex puts some strain on the gear.

If the cam is drilled for oiling at the front, like a normal 8BA, there will be adequate oil on the distributor gear. I would be more concerned with the drive gear slipping on the cam. A pin or other drive assist might be in order.
