cam advice

I'm building my first flathead for my 39 sedan. It's an 8BA with merc crank, Ross 3.375X4 pistons, Edelbrock alum. heads (1115), and Eddie Meyer hi-rise dual intake. In other words, it's pretty much a standard street rod flathead. I'ld like to use a cam/kit from a manufacturer that includes lifters and springs but I'll listen. Right now I'm not planning on hardened seats. The rear gear is 3.8 in a Ford 8", tires will be 75R/15's, and your guess on the weight is probably more accurate than mine. Advice?

I'm new. I'll be asking a lot of questions. There's a lot of knowledge on this forum and I thank you for your patience.

Why not hardened seats on the exhaust? Might save you a problem down the road. Seems foolhardy when your putting that kind of money in a new build.

I am also building a similar flathead and I had the very knowledgable and experienced FordBarn cam grinder regrind my camshaft. I have been reading for months on cam grinds for flatheads but I knew who's advice to take seriously and went with exactly what he suggested after a detailed breakdown of what I was building and what kind of driving I intend to do. The best part was I sent my core out on Monday and it was ready by Friday. THANKS PETE...

Hard valve seats are definitely your friend, especially if you plan to drive the car for very long. While the engine is at the machine shop, it's cheap insurance. Don't forget to have it balanced as well.

am quite happy with the isky max 1 in my 8ba . the engine is in a 2250 lb roadster,3.73 rear, s10 5 speed and 237x75x15 rear rubber. have driven it over 50000 miles without hardened valve seats.

use a L100 cam ol ron swears by them,,a friend of mine has a 276ci with one in it what a exhaust note it has :)
