1930artdeco

I just found out that Napier, NZ has an Art Deco week in February. Has anyone gone to it and how is it? I may include it in my vacation plans if it is worth taking in.

Thanks,

Mike

it is big great cars buildings sun ect ect it pulls visitors from all over the world theres also a big art deco dance,:)

As you can see, I live there. Napier got flattened by an massive earthquake in 1931, so the rebuild of the CBD was done in the fashion of that time. To this day, it remains the best concentration of deco buildings in the world. It is on the ocean's edge, and has many large palm trees, so has a somewhat meditteranean look and feel.
During art deco week, a large number of people dress in period style, and vintage cars converge from all over the world, including the USA. Although it runs for a week, it culminates in the weekend with vintage and classic cars parading through town, trolley races, bands playing in the street, vintage planes flying overhead, steam train rides and much, much more.
A great week for people who have a touch of nostalgia.
Being summer here, there are several big cruise ships every week, with guided deco tours around the CBD, many cafes and restaurants etc, etc.

Thank you guys. Sorry, Australia just lost the vacation battle.....So New Zealand here I come.....as soon as I have saved up the money and time next year.
