When I was about six (1940) We moved 400 miles in a 31 Chev in one day @40mph. Our dog rode the running board all the way, and he wasn't tied to anything. He always rode the running board. When he heard the car start he'd tear out to the street and jump on the running board. I'd rather be the dog on the running board than those folks in back with nowhere to sit.

brother i want the whole truck.!! i never had a car with running boards but i did have a big german shepard that would run and jump in a slow moving car if the windows were down.couldnt back down the driveway with the widows down or hed be in your lap.

Look real close to the position of the guy with his arm out over the door and of the second person in the front seat (middle?). I think there are 3 people in that seat. Maybe the dog and girls in the back are smarter about their comfort then we realize.

[QUOTE=. I think there are 3 people in that seat.

When I was younger (and smaller) it was common to carry three in the seat of our '30 coupe. Worked better if the center rider was a teenage girl!

When I see pictures like this, I think of what a spoiled lot we are today... we think our times are tough. These people have with them only what they could carry and deemed absolutely necessary. Imagine what they left behind, if anything. And now we have their vehicles as our toys.

The dog would probably be better off just laying on the board. I look at that chokehold rope holding his neck up and goodby dog in a sudden stop, even though theguy is holding him back.
