Cali registration/title

I'm getting the Cab ready to be sold, however we have misplaced the title. I have an old registration card from like the 70s that gives the Cab's VIN and all that. My question is, how hard or costly would it be to get a new title for it? Just waltz in with a lost title form filled out? My '33 pickup will need a title too however I'll probably have to pull the cab off to get the VIN. Thanks.

get the highway patrol to drop by and verify the numbers or trailer them into the dmv, both are free, then present those forms to the dmv counter, pay your fee, about $25 per title plus registration and tags.
be honest, show all previous documents and you shouldn't have any trouble.

this topic for ca. vin keeps coming up, look back a few weeks.

Just remember that is a vehicle in CA has not been registered for seven years if is no longer in their system. The DMV only knows what you tell them. So I tell them nothing. I ask for an "application for title". Fill it out. Take the vehicle around back for number verification. Sometimes they will refer you to CHP for verification. Pay them some money and a couple weeks later the title comes in the mail.

If you just lost the title and it was in your name you should be able to get a duplicate by filling out a form. I am not sure what they do if it has fallen out of the system. For your '33 the number should be visible on the top of the left frame rail near the steering without removing the body.

Many of the Automobile Clubs also assist with car registration. When I bought my 1030 Town Sedan from a chap in New York, I took it to our Automobile Club office here in Orange Co., and they had a guy there who specialized in older car registration and issues...he was a big help and I was able to do all of it there without Highway Patrol or DMV........

I believe the title was in my dad's name, and I'm sure that title was issued way more than 10 years ago. The plates have '85 stickers on them. I'll look into the Automobile Club, if I can find an easier way to do this I will. I'm weary about the DMV.
