Cad and Black Oxide Platers in USA...

Would like to include a list of Cad, Black Oxide (Raven Finish), Nickel and Chrome metal platers in the USA in the "website" list above for who you have used to restore your car...hopefully this "addition" will help those in need.

And whatever you do, be specific about Cad plating to your plater when getting your parts plated...mine came back a "gold" sheen to them once and had to return the whole batch!

Anybody?

Thanks.

Pluck

I used Electro Plating Specialties in Hayward California for my cad plating. I was WERY pleased with their work. I've had cad done before but this is by far the best cad I've ever seen.

The gold color is called 'Type II" cad plating. This is more common since many aircraft parts are plated with that type. "Type I" should have a silver look to it. Propeller shops are the most common cadmium platers out there but not the only.

I use:

TECH PLATING in Anaheim California

(714) 634-9254

They do CAD I (Silver) and CAD II (Gold) as well as almost all the other types of plating.

I have used them for years with very good results.

To add to rotorwrench and cwpasadena's posts, when asking for cad, ask for unconverted cad. All cad is silver in colour and plated the same, but then to turn it from type I to type II, the part is immersed into a sodium dichromate solution. This converts the top couple of microns of the cad plating to cadmium chromate and slows down the corrosion of the cad. There is also a type III which is a phosphate conversion and has a slight blue tinge. If the plating is thick enough, you can scuff the conversion coating off with a scotch-brite pad and still leave silver coloured cad.

NO , they just do my Raven. I have Paul's Chrome[PA] do my nickel and Chrome....Cad. i have done in Springfield Mass. but they really don't like doing car parts.[think it has something to do with the owners] . Paul's Chrome is a little pricy but job is well done. Triple plating. If you want to have a nice plating job done and less money Doc. Kalinka works with a plater out in Wisconsin...[Bill is the one to speak to at Paul's] ...
