C4 transmission

Today I cleaned the underside of my 1955 Ford. It has a C4 ****** and a 302 engine. The car does not have a neutral safety switch and will start in any gear. The code on the passenger side cover on the ****** has a large A with a code underneath that which is C6AP-7D027-C. I think this means I have a 1966 Ford C4 out of a Galaxie. Question is which neutral safety switch do I need, for a 1966 C4 or are other years compatible.

Column or converted to floor shift ?

It should not make any difference if its a floor or column shift. As far as I know, there are some differences in the switches over the years although they look the same. I would get one that is for a 66 car - I don't think it makes a difference in what model (Galaxie or Mustang) it was in.

Having rebuilt tons of C-4's working in a few ford dealerships the C on the servo cover relates to the servo piston diameter...the reason for different size Pistons was for the way it applied the 2nd gear band for shift feel.
You can easily hook up a neutral switch by using it to break the crank wire circuit that feeds the solenoid..

yeah I think the switches were pretty-much all the same for the C4s. Wow, old memories! - seems the number I recollect for them was C4AZ-7A247-? but it might have changed over the years. But check your application for correct info and fitment. And as Paul above said, probably best to get it for the Galaxy application.
