Borg Warner T85C - 1A with R11 - 1G overdrive, this is a heavy duty 3 speed trans from the mid 50's to mid 60's and used in Ford/ Mercury cars and trucks, information on the internet has it installed behind some high horsepower 406 & 427 engines. They were also installed in Stud's and Packards please check your application or if you need it for parts the price is right. This is in very good condition as you can see by the pictures.

Fred....I do not see how that T85 would fit a Ford or Mercury "car " as the tail shaft is too short.....feel free to correct me if I am wrong....I have two t-85 Mercury-Ford overdrive transmissions and the tail shaft are a lot longer ...front case to end of tail shaft approx 30 1/2" on one and the other is approx 27".....double check your application info...John

You could be right as I'm not familiar with this overdrive unit and advertising it for a friend and he isn't sure either as it came out of his collection of Ford Parts, John do you know what the pickup truck had for a tail shaft length?

Re: BW OD transmission. A T-85 C is a car trans. The R-11 unit there is a truck unit. The gears in the T-85C are higher and are best used with a 4:11 rearend. The T-85N (truck) is lower geared and is great with a 3:76 rear. The R-11 units are the same except for length. This trans was messed with at sometime. This trans will work good in most short wheelbase cars. Im running one in a '66 F-100 long bed with one drive shaft and havent had any problems although i think the drive shaft is too long.

The R11 overdrive was the overdrive in the 56 T-Bird right from the Factory...supplied with a 312 engine....this R11 1 E or 1 H was coupled to a T85 C1A...it was a Mercury ****** ....this info from the "thunderbird restoration manual by Gil Baumgartner"....John in CT
