Buying a horn light switch assembly

Hello all. My recent purchase of my 29 model a sport coupe came without a horn light switch assembly. So I've been online looking at a few different shops that sell them but there are a few different lengths of the rod. So how do I know which one to buy? And does anyone have a good suggestion to as who I should order it from. I just put a good sized order at the M.A.F.C.A. for some books. They had the best prices on many of the books I wanted and they are located in California, so I'll get them quicker! Last night I ordered some parts from Macs. So choke stuff, door lever, carb air filter, etc...
Thanks for the help as usual!
This Friday is I'm taking my car to its first car show. Then on Saturday there is a April fools car show! So it should be a fun filled weekend!
Last question, I figured I might as well do an oil change as I have no idea as to when it was changed last. So what type/brand of oil is best, or works best. I'm sure there are some different opinions but I need to do it before Friday so let me know what you think! Thanks!!

How about measuring the length of your steering column? Or post a picture of the steering gear box. You should try to find an original light switch. Repros are junk.

Find out which light switch you need. There is a short one and a long one for Model A's depending on the date of manufacture. The short one was correct for cars built between Feb. '28 through Oct. '29. You said your car was a '29 model but I don't know when it was built. The bail had to match the switch. Is it still on the steering column? If you determine which one you need, get in touch with me at v8fordman@hotmail.com. I have some originals that are at the plating shop now, so they should be back soon. The repros are junk as Mr. Texas stated, but originals are pricey.

I would use single viscosity SAE 30 oil rather than a multi-viscosity but any quality oil will work.

I use Bert's, Bratton's and Snyders. I think if you do a search you will
find Macs is on the top of a lot of peoples do not use list.

I use Bert's 95% of the time, about the only time I go elsewhere is when they don't have what I need.
As stated. the length of the horn rod depends on the year of the car. One of the suppliers (I don't recall which one right now) shows the horn rod part number and length by year.
Any quality 30 weight oil will be fine... there is a difference of opinion on detergent or non detergent on this forum, so pick the one you feel most comfortable with.

Thanks for all the replies. When I get some time this weekend I'll see what kind of steering box I have. And yes Bob I have hooked up with my local club. They meet once a month so I'll be attending the meeting coming up and luckily hey are having a "work on your model a day in a few weeks".
