Burtz gas milage

I have a Burtz engine with the touring cam and a 6.1 head. What gas milage should I expect?

A little less than a stock A with the same head. The Burtz has more bearings that add drag and a full pressure oil system that takes a little hp to drive. In reality you won't be able to measure it.

With the HC head and a hotter cam than stock you might be tempted to drive it a little more aggressively than you would otherwise. I suspect that will affect your mileage as much as anything. Otherwise I would not expect your mileage to be much different than bone stock. Of course, if you coupled that with downdraft carbs then all bets are off.

20 on the road. The HC head will help. I get 20 in my tudor with a hotter cam than the Burtz, a bigger than stock carb, and an overdrive. I cruise at 65 MPH.

We have just done 2,400 miles getting to our National Rally. Average over that distance was 28 mpg (proper gallon). Mine has a cam I specified from the grinder - basically a modified B cam, 6:1 head and Webber carb. We cruised at 75-80 mph.

Is 75-80 mph correct?

28 Imperial mpg is 22.4 US mpg, so pretty good!

Yes, five mains and five cam. Only the 1-3-5 cam bearings are drilled for oil, in case you want to use a three bearing cam. If you use a five bearing cam you have to drill oil passages in #2 and #4.
