Burning Out Condenser

Has anyone had a problem with manifold heaters radiating enough heat to burn out modern (inside the distributor) condensers?

I used my autolite manifold heater while in a slow moving Christmas parade and a couple of days later the motor was sputtering as if starving for gas. I checked the carb and all seemed OK. I replaced the condenser (I always keep a spare) and it started right up and is running fine again. I suspect the cause was lack of adequate air flow betweem the heater and distributor while driving the parade speed limit.

My own thought is that if it was a condensor purchased in the past ten years or so from a large vendor, it probably has epoxy insulation instead of wax as the old ones did, and should be unaffected by manifold heat.

Could having a cool drink, and then restarting in five minutes have had the same effect as changing the condensor, with the car starting after a cooling off period? :)

I wonder how the coil is?
