Bumpers with "C" stamp

I was reading somewhere about orignal bumpers with a "C" stamped at regular intervals on the back side. Unfortunately, I cannot remember where I was reading it or what the "C" meant.
Any help?
Thanks

All the original 1928 and 1929 bumper bars I've seen have the C stamped on the rear side. I don't know what the C stands for though.

I have them on my 30 coupe.

I suspect I found something re-reading an article in an old Restorer or Model A Times but can't remember which issue. Is there a complete Index for all back copies of the magazines?

I have never seen a bumper bar with more than One C or U on it however some bars have a brand on them about every 15" or so and some don`t have either, here is a couple pictures of the brand and C on a real nice original Bar the brand is in the circle and is real hard to see so I drew it off to the side. I think MOT might have some better pictures.

I've been at this awhile and never read anything speculating or claiming to know what "C" or "U" stood for. Here on the west coast "U" is all I ever find on car bumpers and bumper arms. However all the bumpers and arms I collected for my Roadster are matched with the "C" stamping. The "C" seems to be predominant in the east and mid-west.

The symbol shown below is also found on my bumper bars repeating every 11".

Yes, MARC (Model A News), MAFCA (The Restorer), Model A Times, The Double A'er all have complete indexes.

I have indexed all of those myself using the Parts Price Lists as a guide...check it out on my website www.plucks329s.org under Parts and Articles on Originality Index.

Both of my front bars on my 1928 have the raised mark as Marco shows & also have several FORD SCRIPTS on them...

Dmaxweb ... if you plan on going to Hershey and staying for the show on Saturday i'll have my D. Phaeton there. All 4 bumper bars have the letter "C' in the same place on each bar. My bumper arms have the letter "C" on them too. and All bumper clamps and bumper plates have the letter "C' on them too. I believe i had the letter "E' Too on some spare clamps .

My 30 coupe has the "C" on both front bumper bars and all 4 rear bumperette bars.

I checked the Restorer index on the MAFCA site and it lists a bumper article in the Nov-Dec 1986 issue. I'm guessing this is where I read about the stampings. Seems like it also had info on how far around the end bolt was polished. Does anyone happen to have that issue around? I don't have my old copies handy.

I agree with Marco
out west the dominate letter is "U"
i have about 10 sets, all original ,purchased more than 30 years ago
i have them with two "Us" per bar,one at each end,
most have one U at one end
one set has no marking
and one really good original set has one U on one bar and none on the other
the U is in all cases right near the end
none of mine have a C
they all seem to have the original bolts and spacers and never have been apart

I just got a set of rear bumper brackets for a 1929 roadster one of them has the "c" but the other one has "I" clear as anything , I can post a picture in the morning if it is anything of interest ?

Far west with "U"s ,, My 180A came from the state of Washington sitting in a barn as late as 1957...before that who knows ??but all have the letter "C" 4 matching bumper bars and bumper arms. Clamps i bought a few n.o.s from a old boy in California years back. They had "C" on them.

My 1930 Canadian Standard Phaeton has "D" stamped on many parts including the bumper brackets. I will have to look at the original bumper, which is in storage to see if there are any marks on it.

My Canadian '29 also has D on the bumper arms & on the rear bumper bars. There is also a triangle logo on a clamp backing plate & ''1000" is stamped on the backs of the front bumper.
Dominion Forge Ontario supplied some parts to Ford Canada, maybe the source of the D stamp?
Other small castings were made by Eureka Planter, Ontario eg. water inlet & pump housing but only at certain production periods.
