Bumper Brackets

Can a 1930 bumper be attached to 1929 bumper brackets and look/mount correctly?
(reason why I ask is that I am doing an early 30 pickup over with the 28/9 cab style)

Thank you.

I have 28-29 bumper on my 30 4dr blindback no problem

30 Pickups WERE the "squarecab" 82A cabs until May-June of 1930.

These "transition" pickups would be fitted out with 1929 Trim, fenders, but would have a 28-29 Gas tank fitted with the quarter turn 1930 cap. Also the steering wheel MIGHT be the 1930 pattern with a light switch with the black center.

There was some variability depending on remaining stock and the assembly plant.

As to 28-29 or 30-31 bumper brackets/bumper, factory build for transition could be either. The bumper year would be followed with the correct bracket for that year - so the bracket curve would match the bumper.

I have held the 28-29 brackets side by each against the 30-31 bracket - and there is not a lot of difference. More difference in the actual bending than the length or location of the holes. (28-29 is curled "tighter" but you see rolling one against the other that they appear to use the same stock.)

At one point I was hoping to buy a pair of 28-29 brackets and be sure of what I bought - and ended up buying the entire bumper INCLUDING the brackets to be sure I had the right thing.

Neil Wilson at his AA web page draws a tighter circle around the transition years. For him the AA trucks bumpers PARTICULARLY were assembled to the 1930-31 pattern. I won't go through his read on this (no doubt well documented as his work is the basis for judging requirements) but you can read his take and do what is convenient.

Neil and I have differed in our estimation how closely Ford assembly plants followed main plant practice. (Avatar was built in Somerville, MA in March/April 1929) I tend to throw a looser woven net.
