Bummer

What a bummer, I drove my 41 along with my 65 mustang on a day trip to Hutchinson to the salt mines, and the cosmosphire Saturday, and on the way back just south of Hutchinson, the 41 quit, due to a couple of wires got crossed after rubbing on the throttle arm.
I had to get in with a friend of mine driving the Mustang, and go about 70 miles to Towanda, and get the truck and trailer and load it up.
On the way back I stopped in a little Quick Trip place to air up a trailer tire, and shut the truck off, and went in to get some snacks, and came back out and the battery on the truck died.
Hummmmmmmm! Darn. By the time I got every thing home, it was mid night.
I checked on it the next day, and I have bare wires from the wires on the selinoid over to at least the center of the engine, up inside the factory harness I installed back in 1993.
I am thinking about cutting back the cloth covering until I get to some GOOD wire, and cutting and soldering and replacing the damaged wire. I guess I could replace the whole front harness, but maybe this will work for a while.
That 41 has run ALONG TIME , SO GOOOOOOD, and then it kicked up its heels.

Eventually those "trips from hell" happen. Funny though, after a few years, we look back at them as adventures.

Dennie, I would look very carefully to see if the hot wire didn't get grounded somewhere and that caused the wires to become very hot and destroy the insulation on the wires. New wires from 1993 should not be suddenly bare. You can tell if a wire has been really hot. Focus on the main feeds from the battery and ensure hot wire going inside is still in a grommet and didn't short on the firewall, etc.

Good luck. Elec problems are some of the most difficult. If the rest of the harness seems OK, I'd just run a new wire alongside the original harness and see if old faithful comes back to life. Just one guy's thinking. Al

I started at the selonoid, and it was bare to about the middle of the firewall, so I removed the cloth looking covering, back about 10" and finally got into good insulation on the two YELLOW wires coming off the side of the selinoid. There is a black wire coming from the front terminal of the selinoid, and that is the starter button wire, and it is burn bare back to the center of the engine also. I stripped is back until I got about 6.0" of good insulation.
I have another wire harness off of my modelt t, that has the large yellow wires in it, and I think I will remove a section of them, and splice and solder them in where the bare burnt wires are. and also a black wire in place of the black burnt wire, and heat shrink all the soldered connections, and give it a try.
What do you think?
I think, I will also get a forward wire harness on order and at some time after I retire in July 29th, I might replace the forward harness.

If it's a main current line, and I think the wires you are describing are, you can just use a 10 gauge wire from the auto parts store and not start butchering your T wires. Once you've solved the problem and are sure what you've done fixed it, you can worry more about cleaning it up to have more of a stock appearance. Get it running and working well first would be my suggestion but you do what you think best. Just my 2 or 3 cents. Good luck. Al
